Hermann Maier – Meine Heimat – The Zillertal Alps

Hermann Maier – Meine Heimat – The Zillertal Alps

This time, Hermann Maier finds himself in the picturesque mountains around the Zillertal valley, a fascinating landscape where wilderness and cultivated land have coexisted for centuries. The region has been the subject of scientific study for decades and has taken on a new relevance in this age of rapid climate change. Hermann Maier talks to locals who are passionate about the surrounding nature, scientists and local legends like the mountaineer Peter Habeler. Forestry experts explain the importance of dead wood in forests, several ibexes are released into the wild 3000 metres above sea level and Hermann Maier joins a group of students on an early-morning expedition to observe the behaviour of ptarmigans. The film examines the many changes taking place and explains why it is more necessary than ever to preserve the natural diversity that still remains here.
